newborns & babies

try to book your session around your baby's natural feeding and nap times. use your baby's natural rhythm to your advantage here. the ideal time to shoot is right when baby would be going down for a nap. if your baby usually falls asleep after a feeding, please wait to feed the baby till i have arrived and we are ready to shoot. i allow plenty of time for newborn sessions, so if things don't go exactly according to plan, that's alright! we have wiggle room to adjust if necessary (see collections page under the Investment tab for more information).

be sure to use a washcloth to clean away flaking skin & eye boogers

if your baby has flaky skin, cradle cap, or eczema, a little coconut oil does wonders!

trim those tiny finger nails and toe nails before the session

add a little pizzazz to paper diapers. cloth diapers are classy & stylish, but if you don't use them, bring bloomers or decorative diaper covers (preferably solids).

nothing is the best wardrobe for a newborn - no outfit fits a newborn well. they often seemingly disappear inside the clothing. so the birthday suit is really the way to go. accessories are fantastic, though! little hats, dainty headbands, or a favorite blanket or lovey. bring along sentimental items, as well - grandma's handmade quilt or your childhood blanket - they're perfect for baby to lay on.

be sure to bring a pacifier if your baby takes one. if baby is bottle-fed, bring an extra bottle to help urge baby to sleep.
